Turns out Meghan Linsey can turn out some darn impressive non-country music.

Which probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone who watched Season 8 of The Voice.

Meghan, who finished runner-up to Sawyer Fredericks, previously enjoyed musical stardom as one half of the country duo Steel Magnolia.

But she’d struggled somewhat as a solo country act and arrived on The Voice stage determined to return to her more soulful roots.

Well, she just released her “Believer” EP, and it should make a believer of anyone who wasn’t.

And that’s just one of the standout tracks on the six-track EP. Others you’ll want to be sure to check out include the title track and “Best of Me,” which Meghan describes as her favorite in an interview with Digital Journal.

“It is a very personal song and probably the hardest one to write. As a songwriter, that was probably my favorite on the EP,” she said. “As far as a fun song goes, I love ‘Counterfeit.’ I love that song.”

Meghan’s EP, though released independently, has done well on iTunes. Saturday evening, 24 hours after its release, it was number seven on the pop albums chart. Monday evening, it’s still number 27.

And sales were probably depressed somewhat because the EP was available at a bargain price on GhostTunes.com for a week before it hit iTunes.

“I am so excited to put out music that I really believe in, no pun intended,” Meghan told Digital Journal, adding that she appreciated coach Blake Shelton’s support in allowing her “do my thing and be myself” while she was on The Voice.

Now, check out “Sunshine in My Soul.”
