What better time than the week of Veterans Day to release a video honoring troops who served in the Vietnam War?

That’s what Kristy Lee Cook of Season 7 of American Idol has done.

The video for her new single, “Ranger Airborne Infantry,” debuted this week. You can watch it below.

The song is based on poems her father wrote about his experiences in Vietnam. He even makes a cameo appearance in the video (watch til the end).

The single is Kristy Lee’s first with Broken Bow Records, also home of artists Jason Alden and Dustin Lynch, and its patriotic theme might help boost her back into the country music spotlight.

“Singing a song about men and women that have fought and served for our country and those who have lost their lives for us is very emotional – and I’m not an emotional person, but there is a soft spot in my heart for our soldiers,” says Kristy Lee in a press release for Broken Bow.

No date has been set for a new Kristy Lee album, but one would suspect sometime next year.

The album would be her third. She released “Devoted” in 2005, pre-Idol. After finishing seventh on the show, she followed up with 2008’s “Why Wait,” which produced a minor hit in “15 Minutes of Shame” and an early version of the later Lauren Alaina single, “Like My Mother Does.”

Kristy Lee sounds great on the new song, and “Airborne Ranger Infantry” matches anything from that 2008 album.
