Carrie Underwood ‘Play On’: Hit or flop?

Today’s the day Carrie Underwood releases her new album, ‘Play On.’

Considering that her first two albums were smash hits, fans will probably be quite satisfied if she does just that.

And, at first listen, it sounds as though she has succeeded. There are enough potential hits here to keep Carrie near the top of the country charts for months to come.

Heck, “Cowboy Casanova,” the lead single, is already a hit, country and cross-over.

The album features another dose of sassy Carrie — “Before He Cheats” style — in the song “Undo It,” co-written by Idol’s very own Kara DioGuardi. Then there’s “Temporary Home,” a country tearjerker where we’re reminder just how well this Underwood gal can sing.

And, if 19 Entertainment executives have any sense, they’ll adopt a tune called “Change” as the official theme song of the 2010 Idol Gives Back effort.

I’ll do a full review of Carrie’s “Play On” this Sunday.

Meanwhile, here’s a link to an Associated Press interview with Carrie about her career and “Play On.” She talks about how she’s more comfortable writing love songs these days.
