Nominees for the 46th annual Dove Awards — honoring the best in Christian music — were announced today, and two familiar names are on the list.

Danny Gokey is among those nominated as best new artist. And Colton Dixon’s “Anchor” is nominated as best rock/contemporary album of the year.

After going country immediately after his third place finish on Season 8 of American Idol, Danny released his first Christian album, “Hope in Front of Me,” last June.

It debuted at number one on Billboard’s Christian album chart and has yielded a pair of Top 10 singles on the Christian airplay chart. Those include the title track and “More Than I Think I Am.”

Other Dove Award nominees for best new artist include About A Mile, I Am They, Lauren Daigle and NF.

Colton, meanwhile, has enjoyed success with his second Christian album, “Anchor,” which also debuted at number one on the Billboard chart when it was released last year.

His current single, “Through All of It,” is sitting at number 13 on both the Hot Christian singles and Christian Airplay charts after peaking at 11 and 12, respectively. His first single from the album, “More of You,” cracked the Top 10 on the Christian singles chart.

Other nominees for rock/contemporary album of the year include: The Borderland Sessions by John Mark McMillan, Live From The Woods by NEEDTOBREATHE, Invader by Rapture Ruckus, and The Edge of the Earth EP by Switchfoot.

Colton, who placed seventh on Season 11 of Idol, won a 2013 Dove Award for his debut album, “A Messenger.” And he’s planning to release an EP of new music next month.

This year’s Dove Awards ceremony will be held Oct. 13 in Nashville. You can learn more and see all the nominees announced so far by heading here.
