David Cook, Kellie Pickler to perform at all-star events

A couple of Idol stars searching for a new record deal — and deserving of one — get high-profile gigs next week, courtesy of the Major League All-Star game.

Season 7 winner David Cook kicks things off by performing the national anthem prior to to the start of Monday’s Home Run Derby, which will be televised on ESPN (7 p.m.).

Then, on Tuesday, Kellie Pickler will perform “God Bless America” during the seventh-inning stretch of the all-star game itself, with the broadcast set for a 7:30 p.m. start on FOX.

But that’s not all of the Idol-related all-star news.

With FOX televising the event, you’ve got to figure they’d find a spot for Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips.

And they have. He’ll be performing his coronation song “Home” prior to the game and during a tribute to tornado recovery efforts in Joplin, Missouri, and Tuscaloosa, Ala.

David might be four years removed from his Idol crown, but he’s a natural choice to appear at an all-star event this year.

A Missouri native, he’s a huge sports fan, and the game is being played in Kansas City.
