David Cook returns to Pa. in August

For those of you who just can’t get enough David Cook, the season seven winner of American Idol has another show scheduled in Pennsylvania later this year.

David will be playing at Musikfest in Bethlehem — about a 2-hour drive from here — on Monday, Aug. 3. Ticket prices range from $24 to $54 and went on sale over the weekend.

Apparently, David’s college shows during his Declaration Tour have been a smash hit. Last week’s show at Penn State York sold out within a week of the day tickets went on sale.

And I talked to two fans at the show who traveled long distances to attend because the college shows closest to their hometowns had already sold out. One drove more than six hours from Rhode Island with a broken bone in her leg so she could watch David perform live for the first time.

The power of American Idol. Never underestimate it.

What was it David said during the taped segment aired on last night’s show? He released an independent CD back in 2006 and sold 1,000 copies in 10 months. Now his first post-Idol album has gone platinum — 1 million sales — in less than four months.

And, yeah, that segment we watched last night was taped a couple of weeks ago. David talked about it during an interview two weeks ago. He said it was great to reunite with the folks at Idol, especially without the pressure of being judged when he finished singing.

David postponed two shows earlier this week “to deal with family matters,” according to his Web site. No word yet on what that was about. The tour is expected to resume tonight in Wilmington, N.C.

And on Friday, David is supposed to be back in the area, performing at Towson University in nearby Towson, Md.

That show is, of course, sold out.
