Adam Wakefield dropped his first major post-Voice project Friday.

When Adam Wakefield dropped his post-Voice debut single back in May, he promised an EP would follow.

He fulfilled that promise Friday, releasing a self-titled, six-track project that has fans singing his praises.

That EP also had the former Voice finalist sitting at number 25 on the iTunes albums chart 24 hours after its release.

Some feedback from those fans, courtesy of Facebook:

Curtis Self: This guy is the real thing, country, soul, southern rock … you can’t really put a title on this man because he can do it all. He can slow it down for a great ballad or turn it way up for a rocking good time. Cannot wait for more music from this guy!”

Chris Capehart: Is there a music genre called country soul? If there isn’t, there should be. That’s where I think Adam’s coming from. He sings and you feel it way down to your core.

Lynette Robertson: “This guy has amazing talent, I’ll be waiting to see him at a concert venue near me soon! I love the pure sound of his voice.”

That lead single was “Blame It On Me,” written by former Voice colleague Nolan Neal, and it’s certainly a standout track on the EP.

But Adam matches it with two other soulful ballads, “Love is Blind” and “Lovin’ Me Bad.” Adam told Taste of Country the latter is one of the most personal songs he’s ever written.

Want to rock, southern style?

Adam does that too, especially on his fine EP-closing “Motorcycles and Cigarettes.”

The EP marks his first major release since finishing second to Alisan Porter on Season 10 of The Voice. Adam’s pre-Voice band, Old Man Brown, released a trio of albums.

And Adam will be returning to one of Old Man Brown’s former base of operations next month, with a show planned at The 8 by 10 in Baltimore on Thursday, Aug. 31.

Now, here’s a live version of “Motorcycles and Cigarettes.”
