After American Idol

Former Idol fan favorite David Archuleta returns to music with ‘Numb’

7 American Idol fan favorite David Archuleta has been quite quiet musically since returning from a mission trip to Chile.

That’s about to change.

On Friday, David released “Numb,” his first single since releasing a duet of “The Prayer” with Nathan Pacheco last December and his first non-Christmas single in much longer than that.

David told YahooMusic the song is about how he was feeling after his mission trip, at a time when he was contemplating whether he even wanted to continue a career in music.

He wrote the song with Trent Dabbs and producer Jamie Kenney, who encouraged David to write about what he was feeling.

“It occurred to me that maybe I can actually write about what I’m really going through instead of teenage love songs because that’s what people want to hear,” he said in an interview you can read here. “That’s kind of how I’ve always been trained. It didn’t occur to me that I could write about what I was actually feeling, and we just started writing and that’s what came out of it.”

David told the site he has several more new sings that might wind up on an EP or album. And he’s planning to release another Christmas single, “My Little Prayer,” before the holidays.

He’s also embarking on a Christmas tour with Pacheco. It kicks off with Nov. 25 and Nov. 26 dates in Provo, Utah. You can check out the details on David’s website.

David’s loyal fans, of course, are ecstatic about the new music. At noon eastern time Friday, 12 hours after the song’s release, “Numb” was sitting at number 99 on the iTunes pop chart.
