Inside The Voice: Liz Davis compares singing competitions

0

Liz Davis knows what it’s like to be on a nationally televised singing competition, giving her a unique perspective among the Season 3 contestants on The Voice.

In fact, Liz not only competed on P Diddy Starmaker back in 2009; she won the show and the recording contract that went with the victory.

She thought that might jet her to stardom.

Instead, the now 25-year-old found herself languishing in relative musical obscurity in Nashville along with lots of other aspiring country singers.

During a recent conference call with contestants from The Voice, Liz said she still doesn’t know what happened and was “really heartbroken” after Starmaker.

“I kind of thought that it was my time,” she said. “I learned a lot about myself within the three years that I was obviously not progressing with that record deal.”

The good news: She thinks she’s a stronger person now. She thinks she’s a better artist.

And the says she’s more determined, determined to take the lessons learned from Starmaker and apply them to her time on The Voice.

One thing she definitely appreciates, Liz said, is the difference between the shows.

“The entire show dynamic is just different,” she said. “With the other show it was … very much Real World meets kind of a singing competition. I felt that there was more footage inside the house (where the artists were staying).

“That was really hard, and I’m glad The Voice is just about your artistry and about you being on stage … So I’m just glad to be given this opportunity again.”
