Taylor John WilliamsTaylor John Williams, the guy who just missed The Voice finals in Season 7, is about to release his first post-show EP.

The five-track effort is called “Song of a Dead Man” and will be released Aug. 10.

You can listen to the title track below. Before he begins singing, Taylor John explains that he wrote the song about Johnny Cash and Jeff Buckley.

Another track from the EP — “The Mates of Soul” — is already available on iTunes as a single. You can listen to it here.

Taylor John posted the track list on his Facebook page last week. Fans responded enthusiastically. A sampling —

* Lisa R. Smith: “I’m doing the happy dance rt now!!”
* Linda Scates: “Can’t wait. I’ve already downloaded Mates of Soul, which is a great little tune.”
* Kate Brauser: “August 10th can’t come soon enough!”

Taylor John sang for Team Gwen on The Voice and finished fifth, just missing the four-singer finale that was eventually won by Craig Wayne Boyd.

Taylor John, 23 when he auditioned, scored a Top 10 hit on the show when he covered Lorde’s “Royals.” And his cover of “Wicked Game” did better than any other wild card performance that season, though the wild card berth — based on downloads and fan voting — went to Damien.

Pre-Voice, he released an EP called “Proverbial Elephant.”
