Jorge Nunez talks about his future

Jorge Nunez performs Tuesday nightSo, what will it be, lawyer or musician?

That’s one of the first questions Jorge Nunez was asked when he spoke with the media Thursday afternoon, less than 24 hours after being eliminated from American Idol.

And he didn’t hesitate. Yes, he’ll complete his college education, something he planned to do before his Idol audition as a prerequisite to a career in law.

“But I’m going to keep going with music,” he said. “Music is my priority now.

“There’s nothing to be upset about when you’ve done so good and you’re (in) the top 13 of 100,000 people,” the 20-year-old added. “You should pursue your dream because now is the time. This is just the start of something much, much bigger.

“You’re going to see more of me.”

Just not on the Idol stage, where Michael Jackson theme week and a shaky performance of “Never Can Say Goodbye” spelled Jorge’s downfall.

Still, he said he’s thrilled with the exposure he received in his homeland of Puerto Rico.

And he’s looking forward to returning there next week. After all, he’s been away for nearly a month.

“I can’t wait to go home and finally eat some Puerto Rican food,” he said.

Up next for the Idols: Country week.

Jorge had hoped to sing “Anyway” by Martina McBride or “I Know You Won’t” by Carrie Underwood.

“Actually, country week, that was kind of intimidating for me, because I’m Puerto Rican,” Jorge said with a laugh.

“If I ever got to sing country for American Idol, I bet I was not only going to be the first Puerto Rican ever in the top 13 of American Idol, but the first Puerto Rican singing country ever in the history of Puerto Rico.”

See that, Idol voters. You spoiled what could have been a historic first.
