After The Voice

Lotus Crush, C. Thomas Howell combine to deliver a music video with a message

Thomas Howell appeared in the “Hearts and Minds” video Lotus Crush released in January.

The actor, director and producer took an even larger role in the band’s new video for a song called “All the Same.”

Howell makes his music video directing debut on the song, exploring the plight of the people living on L.A.’s Skid Row.

Lotus Crush, for those not familiar, is fronted by Terry McDermott, who returned to the rock band after finishing second on Season 3 of The Voice.

“Hearts and Minds” and “All the Same” are both from the band’s impressive album “Rabbit Hole,” which was released back in April.

Terry told Billboard.com that the message behind the song is simple: Regardless of the plight individuals find themselves facing “we are very much all the same, but for a couple of left turns in life.”

To help deliver that message, Howell filmed much of the video footage on Skid Row, meeting with the homeless and poverty stricken who live there.

He told Billboard his goal was to “drive home the message of homelessness in our own cities and countries as much as to bring the awareness that those people aren’t all convicts and drug addicts and sort of ‘unworthy’ people.”

To their credit, Howell and Lotus Crush are backing up with message in the video with action.

They’re taking part in a Random Acts of Kindness campaign in November to help people in need of financial support for cancer treatment. And they’ll take part in a gala in Milwaukee next month to raise money for cancer research.

As for Lotus Crush music, here are two other videos from that “Rabbit Hole” album.
