Lyndsey Elm moves ‘Onward’ with her first post-Voice EP

Lyndsey Elm Onward EPJust six months after her four-chair-turn blind audition aired on The Voice, Lyndsey Elm has released her first EP.

The four-track “Onward” — produced by fellow Voice contestant Tim Atlas — hit iTunes earlier this month.

Lyndsey, of Vacaville, Calif., describes the EP as “a little taste of who I am and where I’m going as an artist” and said she’s proud of each of the self-penned tunes for different reasons.

But none more so than “All My Love,” which she told Voice Views is the new song generating the most buzz.

“I wrote it as a bunch of statements that encapsulate how I want to be perceived and what I want to be known for,” she said. “When I look back on my life, I want to see that I left a legacy that meant something and that I made a lasting impact on people in my circle of influence. It’s a feel-good pop anthem that you can blast in your car with all the windows rolled down during the summer.”

Lyndsey says she worked with Tim on the production of the song for three days and still wasn’t happy with it. So she asked him if they could put it aside and come back to it later. They eventually spent two more days producing that song.

“I laugh a bit because the song I was frustrated with the most is turning out to be the song that is getting the most buzz,” she says. “I’m glad we took the extra time to get it right and we didn’t rush the creative process.”

The EP also includes “Nothin’ on Me,” which Lyndsey released as a single earlier this year, and an impressive ballad called “Sweet Serendipity.”

As for the EP’s title, Lyndsey says it’s a reflection of the “onward and upward” motto she adopted after returning home from The Voice, having been eliminated in the battle round on Season 9.

“Onward meaning that I was going to keep pressing on toward the goals I had and if I got knocked down, I would get right back up,” she explains. “I wanted to look at obstacles or struggles as challenges to overcome instead of roadblocks getting in my way.”

As for the “upward” portion of the motto, Lyndsey says it’s a reflection of her faith. “I can’t do this on my own, so I have to have faith that God’s going to do His thing while I do mine!”

New EP in hand, Lyndsey just completed a series of shows. She’s looking forward to being a guest performer with her dad’s classic rock cover band, Vinyl Ride, when they kick off Vacaville’s Creekwalk Series on June 10. Those shows usually draw a couple of thousand people, she says.

She and her band will also be performing at her hometown’s July 4 celebration; in fact, Lyndsey has been invited to sing the national anthem to kick off the event.

Lyndsey, 22 when she auditioned for The Voice, says she’s also been “writing a ton” for a future full-length album and has an idea for a summer single separate from the EP.

“So we’ll see if I can make that happen,” she says.
