Wow!

That’s the only way to describe my reaction when I heard Addison Agen’s original music.

Addison, from Fort Wayne, Ind., was just 15 when she released her 10-track “New Places” album in April 2016.

Let’s just say it’s chock full of must-hear tracks. “Play It By Ear” might be my favorite pre-Voice song among lots and lots of pre-Voice music I’ve listened to from rumored Season 13 contestants.

Other top tracks include “Look,” “On Your Own,” “Show Me a New Way” and “Sugarcoat.” Head to Bandcamp.com and you can listen to the entire album, which by the way, is available digitally, as a CD or on vinyl.

According to her Facebook bio, Addison was just 2 when she started playing piano. Her mother would color code the three chords she needed for each song to help her out until she could learn to play on her own.

“Her voice was always a bit shocking,” that bio reads. “As a small toddler, people were always commenting on her rough, gravel sounding voice.”

Her interest in music isn’t surprising. Her general manager is Morrison Agen, her dad. Once an aspiring musician, he runs a business called Neat Neat Neat Records and Music in Fort Wayne and has built studios and live sound systems for hundreds of clients all over the world, according to his bio on the business’s website.

As for Agen, The Voice coaches always seem especially impressed with young artists. Sometimes, it even seems like they’re grading them on a curve, awarding bonus points for their youth.

That always seems unfair to me. If you allow 15-year olds to audition alongside experienced musicians, they should out-sing and out-perform those experienced musicians in order to advance on the show.

But judging from what I’ve heard of Addison, she should need no special consideration to excel on the show. Check out three tunes from her debut album below.

And keep in mind that most of the tracks on her album were recorded when she was 13 or 14.

Again: Wow!

She is a gem! What most people may not know about her is that her artwork, is as good as her singing! She plays several instruments, gives back to her community through various fundraisers and is very active in school plays. She also leads worship at her church C2G Church in Ft. Wayne. She really is a great kid! Her parents are humble and have given her every opportunity to succeed and when they didn’t think they could do it, they found a way to make it happen! Great kid!

There’s a bad twist coming this season of “The Voice” that is going to leave many people fuming.

      SPOILER ALERT BELOW:

This year, for the first time since season 6, the Playoffs are not kicking off the live rounds and voting.

This season, the Top 12 will be chosen by the coaches.

Anyone know more about Addison’s background? It seems like her mom is single with a newborn; no mention of a father for that child. It seems like her father is married to another woman. Anyone know the scoop behind that? I know I’m nosy; only because I am in awe of her. She was able to do what I wasn’t able to do; chase after her dreams while holding such a passion for helping and reaching out to others.

      SPOILER

She gets stolen by Adam in the battle round and eventually makes the top 12 with Team Adam.

Morrison is, indeed, her dad. You can take out the ? in the parentheses. 🙂

    Sincerely,
A very old friend of the family

This girl’s voice is just so mesmerizing. I can understand how Adam is all in awe about her. It just sadden’s me she didn’t win The Voice. Her performances were always 100% perfect. The winner’s weren’t.
I just hope for a new album with songs that mean something to the older generation (like me). 🙂 I’m a fan and will follow Addison’s career.
    All the best!
