ALyX, Season Two Contestants, The Voice

Meet ALyX of The Voice (Team Blake)

1

This young lady from Texas started singing when she was 8, was doing radio interviews by age 12 and had released a seven-track EP in 2009.

Two songs from that EP were featured on TV programs — “Castle” and “16 and Pregnant.”

On Facebook, she writes that she’s an retro pop artist who admires both Britney Spears and Mick Jagger, but also grew up singing Patsy Cline.

What is retro pop you ask?  “60s vibe with contemporary today-ness” is the way ALyX explains it.

Now, as for that name, with the uppercase letters — in the radio interview when she was 12 ALyX said she just thought it “looked cool” and that “no one has done it.”  At the time, her stage name also had an exclamation mark on the end.

She’s since lost the exclamation mark, but not her flair for performance.  In an audition we were shown just a snippet of, she began singing Pink’s “Just Like a Pill” lying flat on her back on the stage, even though no of the judges could see her.

ALyX grew up and lives in Dallas, and at 19 is the oldest of four children in her family.  She writes in her Voice blog that she has a son, “Henri.”  Well, he’s actually her pet dog, but she just can’t consider him a pet.

Here are a couple of pre-Voice performances by ALyX, followed by her audition. On Twitter, she is FollowALyX. And here’s a link to her YouTube channel.
