Her audition: Amber Carrington, 19, of Rockwall, Texas, auditioned with “Good Girl,” not knowing the country judge, Blake Shelton, had already filled his team. No problem. Mid-song, Adam Levine turned his chair.

Knockout Round: She sang “I’m With You” by Avril Lavigne and toppled Midas Whale, which performed “Higher Ground.”

Live Playoffs: Performed “Stay” and advanced to the top 12 on fan voting.

Her background: Amber told The Voice she’s been singing her whole life and has a video of herself belting out “Jailhouse Rock” at a young age to back up the claim. As her high school graduation approached, she began raising money to head to Nashville, a move she eventually made. Two months later, her mother died of breast cancer. For a while, Amber said she stopped singing before deciding her mother would want her to continue pursuing her dream.

On her coach: “Working with Adam, I think will really help me expand and grow. I think he has a lot to teach me and (help me) get out of my comfort zone with the country music and maybe I could learn something that would help me in country music.”

What the show didn’t show: Judging from The Rockwell News, Amber had already compiled an impressive resume by age 16, including being named female entertainer of the year at the Mesquite Radio City Music Hall in 2009 and traveling to Los Angeles to perform alongside David Foster, Kenny G and Katharine McPhee at a 2010 benefit for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Malibu. Head to her Facebook page and you can hear her cover seven country hits. In a post-audition interview with The Voice, she admits to trying out for American Idol at age 16 but failing to make it past the first round. Her personal idol is Dolly Parton, not only for her voice but also for her longevity and success as a businesswoman in entertainment.

Quote: “I was always worried about one of them turning around and then me just totally stopping, or something bad happening. But I held it together.”

On iTunes: Her audition song, “Good Girl”
