Angel Taylor, Season Two Contestants, The Voice

Meet Angel Taylor of The Voice (Team Adam)

1

Angel Taylor was the show-closer on the season premiere of The Voice, and the show identifies her as an R&B singer.

But Angel released a 2009 album called “Love Travels” with much more of a singer-songwriter vibe and followed up with an iTunes session EP featuring a couple of new songs a year later.

You can hear some of that music on her website where Angel explains that she never had any musical schooling and only started writing poetry because her older sister was doing it.

“I started writing cheeseball stuff like, ‘you’re awesome, I think you’re opossum,'” she explains here.  “It didn’t really get real until a few years later, but I never took a lesson — songs happened by me banging on a piano, playing it by ear, and trying to fit my poetry in.”

Angel is 23, lives in L.A., is the youngest of five children and sang “Someone Like You” for her audition on The Voice.  Three judges’ chairs turned around; she chose to join Team Adam, though she said she’s s a longtime fan of Blake Shelton.

She says she’s hoping Adam will be able to give direction to her music.

“I don’t know if it’s country.  I don’t know if it’s blues.  I don’t know if it’s jazz, pop-rock.  I’m still trying to figure that out,” she admitted in an interview for The Voice.  “I hope Adam will be able to coach me in that.”

Below, I’ve embedded a music video from Angel’s first album, another pre-Voice recording and her audition.

Angel is ataylormusic on Twitter, and here’s a link to her Facebook page.
