Brian Scartocci, Season 3, The Voice

Meet Brian Scartocci of Team Adam on The Voice

Brian Scartocci told The Voice he was trying to teach his children a lesson by trying out for the show.

The 26-year-old from Austin, Texas, said he married his high school sweetheart and they had two children.

But, by 2010, he says his marriage was crumbling because they’d gotten married too young. And it sounds like he was forced to take jobs that had nothing to do with music in order to pay the bills.

“I had to get my hands dirty,” Brian says.

But he hasn’t given up on music, and said he also wants to show his children that it’s important to follow a dream.

Hence, The Voice audition.

He performed Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely,” a rendition that included one of the loudest screams we’ve heard from a contestant.

Even before the scream, the three male judges spun their chairs. After a prolonged debate — during which Blake noted that Brian had a stinging scorpion on his belt and that he probably has a stinging scorpion in his house, so they just must have much in common — Brian decided to go with Team Adam.

What the show didn’t show: Brian is a member of a five-guy band called Austin Heat, which he appears to have joined around December 2010, judging from its website. The band’s motto: “Be cool, turn up the Heat.” More importantly, the band released an 11-track album to iTunes earlier this month and had an album release party Sept. 21. Head here to listen to some of the music. As for The Voice, in a post-audition interview with Christina Milian, Brian admitted he went into the audition thinking he’d want Cee Lo as a mentor because he “felt that Cee Lo went to the same musical elementary school I did … soul music is what brought me here.” Then, he said, he had a split-second change of heart and picked Adam.
