Meet Kim Yarbrough of The Voice (Team Adam)

Kim Yarbrough admits she was initially tempted to select Christina Aguilera as her mentor on The Voice because they sing similar types of music.

Then something Adam Levine said “resonated” with her.

That something? That there were no limitations to what she could do. That he thought she could do anything she wanted.

Music to the ears of the 51-year-old from Los Angeles, who is described as a quadruple threat — vocalist, actor, dancer and instrumentalist — on her website bio. And it appears she’s done some modeling as well.

“I would love to have a career like Liza Minnelli or Bette Midler or Patti LaBelle or Vanessa Williams,” she told The Voice. “They do all of it.”

Though she’s trying to make it on The Voice as a singer, that wasn’t her first love musically. She picked up the violin at age 4 and could play it, without instruction.

She says she didn’t start singing until she was 18.

“Once I started singing, I felt a freedom I hadn’t felt before,” she said in her pre-audition interview. “It kind of opened me up.”

Over the years, she has released a single (“Nice and Slow” in 2006) and an EP (“Dharma 888” in 2009) and appeared on a number of TV shows, including “Bones” and “Sonny With a Chance.”

But she’s also worked in a potato chip factory, packing shampoo and doing security for the Dave Matthews Band, an indication of how tough it’s been to make a career solely by performing.

So when an opportunity to appear on The Voice came along, she wasn’t about to turn it down.

“Being much older, an opportunity of this magnitude might not come around again anytime soon,” she admits.

During the blind audition, she impressed Adam and Christina with her rendition of “Tell Me Something Good,” a song she’s been performing for 10 years.

She then advanced to the live rounds from a battle round duet of “No More Drama” against Whitney Myer.
