Her audition: Miya Bass, 29, of Jamaica, New York, performed “Issues” by Julia Michaels. Adam Levine turned as soon as she hit the chorus. He was the only coach to turn, but that’s all Miya needed to make the show.

Her background: Both of her parents worked for the New York Police Department. Her sister’s a police officer. And Miya says she was working in law enforcement as a police cadet. But when she was offered a chance to be a police officer, she said no “because I need my freedom. As an artist, I want to sing, I want to perform.” She says her family urged her to audition for The Voice. “Today’s the day I’ve been waiting for pretty much my whole life,” she added, saying she hopes to build her career to the point where she’s in the same position as the show’s celebrity coaches.

What the show didn’t show:

* On Facebook, she describes herself as a singer, actress and dancer.

* She says her musical influences include Lauryn Hill, India Arie and Jazmin Sullivan.

* Miya began dancing at age 3, but says she was shy as a child and didn’t start to take singing and acting seriously until age 16.

* In 2013 at age 26, she made it past the auditions on Season 3 of The X Factor USA, but failed to qualify for the live shows.

* On Facebook, she says she’s made appearances on a number of other TV shows, including BET Black Girls Rock as a singer, The Tyra Banks Show as an actress and Salt & Pepper’s reality show as a dancer.

* On Twitter, Miya says she’s opened for Bill Cosby and also worked with Brandy, Fantasia and Mary Mary.

* Head to YouTube, and you’ll find several clips of Mayo singing as well as her Beauty & The Bass web series, where she cooks, talks relationships and, yep, sings occasionally. Below, you can check out an excellent cover of “Issues.”

* OH, and she’s a big fan of Denzel Washington, comparing the day she encountered him in her church to the day she discovered chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.

On landing on Team Adam: “I feel super blessed. I was super nervous. I just remember my heart dropping when he turned his chair. He’s so well-rounded and has so much experience. I’m sure he can help me in many different ways.”
