Moses Stone, Season Two Contestants, The Voice

Meet Moses Stone of The Voice (Team Christina)

When Moses Stone rapped “Let’s Get Started” during his audition, he became the first hip-hop artist to try out for The Voice.

He wasn’t sure what the judges would make of a rapper on a show all about singing, but his performance was good enough to land a spot on Team Christina.

Moses — real name Moses Haughton Jr. — grew up in Laurel, Md., in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.

He credits an older cousin for introducing him to music and encouraging him to write his own lyrics. That cousin died in D.C., murdered at age 15, Moses tell The Voice.

“I know he’s watching over me, in all that I do,” Moses said. “He always said, ‘Stay focused, keep writing. The more you write, the better you’ll get.”

Moses now lives in Hollywood and has appeared on MTV’s “Say What Karaoke” and BET’s “Wild Out Wednesday,” according to his Facebook bio.

While he rapped on The Voice, he describes himself as an indie hip-hop artist who mixes pop and Motown into his music as well. And he also plays piano.

As for being a member of Team Christina, Moses says “I’m really looking forward to what she can do with me (as a singer) and my rapping too and how we can incorporate both and expand it and make it even more better than what it is.”

Moses recently released a single on iTunes called “My Moment.”

And he advanced to the live shows on The Voice with a performance of  the Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction” in which he went up against the country-pop duo The Line.

You can follow Moses on his Facebook page here. On Twitter, he is @IAmMosesStone. And you can listen to more of his music on his YouTube music channel.
