After The Voice, New Voice Music

Melanie Martinez releases a bizarre new video

Martinez’s first official video — “Dollhouse,” about a perfect family that isn’t so perfect — has 9.4 million views on YouTube.

Here’s betting fans will be even more intrigued by her second video, released last week.

It’s for a song called “Carousel,” another of the four tracks on her debut “Dollhouse” EP.

In it, Melanie is at a carnival that turns into a horror show of sorts.

She winds up falling for a good-looking carnival worker, then goes airborne and floats around the carnival grounds in a slow chase of him.

She catches up; she also winds up tied to a horse on his carousel.

It’s original. It fits the song perfectly. It gets my vote as the most unique video I’ve seen from a former contestant of The Voice this year.

And Melanie told The Source that the concept for the video was hers.

“I think that we just wanted to follow like a very clear narrative to the song, so I wanted the visuals to stick to every line of the song, basically, and just tell that story and show people what I was seeing in my head when I was writing it,” she told the site in an interview published last week.

Melanie was 17 when she auditioned for The Voice and cracked the top 6 on Season 3.

She released the “Dollhouse” EP in May. She’s working on a follow-up album called “Cry Baby.”

Don’t expect the music to be any less original. Earlier this year, she told Groundsounds that one song is likely to be about a teddy bear trying to kill her. Her Facebook page indicates the new album will be out in early 2015.

Next month, Melanie has a number of tour dates scheduled out West. Check out the complete list on her website. But first, according to Melanie’s Twitter account, she’ll be making a special Sunday night appearance at Blood Manor, New York’s premiere haunted attraction, bringing “her own brand of horror to patrons.”
