Idols on the Music Chart

Crystal Bowersox reacts last year after her original, Holy Toledo, was played on American Idol last year. (FOX Photo)OK, Crystal Bowersox’s debut album didn’t exactly hit the Billboard 200 with a splash.

It debuted at number 28 seven weeks ago.  Among Idol finalists, only season three runner-up Diana DeGarmo’s debut entered the Billboard 200 at a lower position, at 52.

But in a recent interview, Crystal said she hopes “Farmer’s Daughter” builds a slow momentum.

And that’s what seems to be happening.

This week, the album moves up from 68 to 59 on the Billboard 200. Sales increased 16 percent over the week before, according to USA Today.

And more radio stations appear to be picking up the “Farmer’s Daughter” single.

Then there’s the case of Lee DeWyze.  I imagine he just set a new mark of the wrong sort for Idol winners.

Eleven weeks ago, his “Live It Up” album debuted at number 19 on the Billboard 200. This week, it’s gone.

Even Kris Allen’s debut, which didn’t exactly shatter Idol sales records, stayed on the Billboard 200 through the following March.

Other chart highlights from this week:

* “Don’t You Want To Stay,” the Jason Aldean/Kelly Clarkson duet, continues to climb. It’s number 10 on the country singles chart; number 35 on the Hot 100.

* A compilation of songs from Grammy nominees debuted at number four on the Billboard 200. The album include Adam Lambert’s “Whataya Want From Me.”

* And americanidol.com is reporting that Kimberly Caldwell’s new single has entered the dance chart. More interesting is a list they posted of all former Idol finalists who have appeared on the Billboard music charts. Check it out here.

Now, the complete rundown …
