Lelia Broussard

A new single (hooray!) from Lelia Broussard

One of my all-time favorite contestants from The Voice just released a new single.

Her name is Lelia Broussard. The song is “Runaway.”

Lelia Broussard, a contestant on Season 3 of The Voice, has released a new single.

Lelia Broussard, a contestant on Season 3 of The Voice, has released a new single.

Don’t remember Lelia?

Little wonder. She was on Season 3 for like a micro-second before being ousted in the battle round.

But the great thing about The Voice is that the show introduces you to all sorts of artists, many of whom have released pre-show music.

And contestants on The Voice don’t have to pretend to be newcomers to the business unlike on — oh, say American Idol, where at one point contestants were pretty much expected to hide any pre-show music they had done.

Lelia was 23 when she tried out for The Voice, was fresh off a second-place finish in The Rolling Stones’ “Choose a Cover” contest and had already released two CDs, an EP and a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.”

As far as I can tell, “Runaway” is her first release since the show. But more is coming.

On her website, Lelia says this is the first in a series of five singles she plans to release on a monthly basis between now and the end of the year.

“Maybe more, who knows!” she writes.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed on that one.

In the meantime, download “Runaway” and check out these other tunes from Lelia.

“Something True” from 2011 “Wolves Are at My Door” EP

“Dancing in the Dark” cover

“You’re Not Fooling Anyone” from 2010 “Masquerade” album

“Buffalo Stars” (hopefully, one of those upcoming singles)
