Unfortunately, that is being overshadowed by the news that Crystal has been dropped by her record label, RCA/Jive.

Crystal seems to be taking the development in stride, judging from an interview she did over the weekend with Idol watcher Michael Slezak.

In fact, she told TV Line she’s working on material for a second album, which she hopes to release in spring or early summer of 2012.

“I’m not worried about where I’m gonna be,” Bowersox told Slezak. “I’m gonna be making music if it’s on my own label or if it’s with somebody else.”

Of course, what makes this so disappointing is that Crystal’s debut album was one of the best first albums ever released from an Idol finalist. Same for the lead single, “Farmer’s Daughter,” a song which, by the way, pre-dated Idol.

The album, also called “Farmer’s Daughter,” was not a huge commercial success however.  Released at the height of the holiday shopping season, it landed at number 28 on the Billboard 200.  Idol’s two previous runners-up — David Archuleta and Adam Lambert — landed at number two and number three, respectively.

As for her TV debut tonight, Crystal will play the part of a murder suspect — you read right, a murder suspect — who is questioned by Megan (Dana Delany) and Bud (John Carroll Lynch) as they investigate the death of a champion equestrian.
