Paul McDonald from Season 10 of American Idol is heading out on a world tour.

He’ll be opening for the band Hanson at a number of U.S. dates on their upcoming “Anthem” Tour.

Paul McDonald will be opening for Hanson on some of their upcoming world tour dates.

That tour begins later this month at the Minnesota State Fair and continues through the end of the year, with a host of international dates scheduled in December.

And, yes, this is the same Hanson that soared to fame in the mid-1990s on the popularity of a song called “MMMBop” and an album called “Middle of Nowhere.”

Earlier this summer, Hanson released a new album, “Anthem,” hence the name of the tour. It debuted at number 22 on the Billboard 200.

The Hanson site lists Paul as the opening act at 22 dates, beginning Aug. 28 in Des Moines, Iowa, and including stops in Bethlehem, Pa., and Richmond, Va.

Paul’s website has a shorter list of dates. So if you plan to attend largely to see Paul, you’d best double check that he’s really opening at that tour stop.

Paul performed with the Grand Magnolias (previously the Hightide Blues) pre-Idol. He finished eighth on the show, well enough to earn a spot on the Season 10 summer tour.

Last year, he released a single called “Counting Stars” and a fine EP with wife Nikki Reed called “The Best Part.” If you haven’t checked out the latter, you should give the songs “Bouquet of Lies” and “Now That I’ve Found You” a listen.

Here’s the video to “Counting Stars.”
