Idol flashback time again. We’re up to season five runnerup Katharine McPhee.

Two years after her Idol run, Kat still looks Idol-licious … ugh, did I just type that? … and she doesn’t have to strip down to a teeny weeny bikini to do it. (Go here for the latest on Bikini Girl.)

Anyway check out the photo on Kat’s new, still under construction Web site if you don’t believe me. The camera loves her.

Others have noticed. Kat was named one of People’s 100 Most Beautiful People in 2007. That same year, she made Maxim’s Hot 100 Women list.

As for her music? It’s had a bit tougher time climbing the charts.

Her initial single, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/My Destiny” did well. But her self-titled debut album was a disappointment and, like 2006 Idol champ Taylor Hicks, she and her record company parted ways.

Now Kat’s making a new start with a new label, also just like Taylor. She announced on her blog last week that she has signed with Verve Forecast, part of the Universal Music family.

kat-1.jpg“I honestly could not be happier,” she writes. “I have the most amazing team of people around me and as we get into recording my new album, there will be tons more news coming your way.”

Meanwhile, about that aforementioned Web site, she’s looking for suggestions. So you can visit her MySpace page to offer assistance. And you can check out some of her music while you’re there.

And, guys, sorry to tell you, but Kat’s taken. According to Wikipedia, she married her 43-year-old boyfriend Nick Cokas last year. In fact, they celebrated their first anniversary Monday.

Now, a look back at Kat’s time on Idol.

Kat sings Aretha Franklin’s “Think” and explains how she learned her “smoldering” look from season four contestant Constantine Maroulis.

Kat sings “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” from her knees, and never sounded better.

Now she’s sitting, singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” sounding and looking lovely.

ace-young.jpgTrivia answer: Ace Young, who finished seventh in season five, just behind Kellie Pickler and just ahead of Bucky Covington. He was nominated for a Grammy in 2007 for Best Rock Song for helping write “It’s Not Over.” The Grammy went to Bruce Springsteen for “Radio Nowhere.” Ace went on to release a self-titled debut album in July. Let’s just say it wasn’t nominated for a Grammy. You can listen to the single, “Addicted” on Ace’s MySpace page. Hey, heartthrob Ace and Kat on the same day. Just call this Idol Chatter’s beautiful people blog.
