Lee DeWyze has released a new single and has a special show planned for late August at an old prison.

With his “coolest show ever” on the horizon, Lee DeWyze is back with a haunting new single.

The song is called “Breakdown” and hit iTunes, Spotify and other music sites on Friday.

You can check out a live version, from a show in Lake City, Colorado, below.

During a recent Facebook chat with fans, Lee said it’s a song he loves, but one he’d played live only a couple of times before it’s release.

He also said more music, and a new album, are on the horizon.

As for that special show — well, Lee has a number of tour dates scheduled. You can check those out on his Facebook page.

But he’s clearly especially excited about an Aug. 27 date in Mansfield, Ohio, at the Ohio State Reformatory, the defunct prison where “Shawshank Redemption” was filmed.

Odd spot for a show, right?

Not to hear Lee tell it.

His show will be in a chapel on prison grounds. He got to perform a song there earlier this year and said the acoustics are what makes it so unique.

“It’s unlike like anything I’ve ever seen before. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever heard before,” he said during that Facebook chat. “The acoustics they have in there is unbelievable.”

He plans on doing a full acoustic set that evening and predicts “it’s probably going to be the coolest show I’ve ever played.”

“Breakdown” is the first new music we’ve gotten from the Season 9 American Idol winner since he released a song called “Weight” in December. That followed “Oil & Water,” his third post-Idol album, which came out in February 2016.

And for those who missed it, Lee also recently signed a publishing deal with SONGS. The publishing company’s songwriting roster also includes Lorde and The Weeknd.

Now, here’s that live version of “Breakdown.”
