Idols at awards shows, Jennifer Hudson

The Voice, Jennifer take People’s Choice awards

For the first time Wednesday night, The Voice was named winner of Favorite Competition TV Show at the People’s Choice Awards.

And that’s certainly more fitting than last year’s outcome, when The X Factor took the same award.

It’s also perfectly fitting.

With American Idol in decline during Season 12 and The X Factor on life support because of lagging ratings, The Voice has become a fan favorite of singing competitions.

This is an award Idol won every year from 2010-2012.

One former Idol contestant — Carrie Underwood — had been nominated for a People’s Choice award Wednesday night.

She and Blake Shelton both lost Favorite Country Artist honors to Taylor Swift.

And, as previously reported, Jennifer Hudson was presented a special People’s Choice award as Favorite Humanitarian.

The award came for her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, which Jennifer formed in 2009 with her sister Julia.

The organization honors Julian — Julia’s son and Jennifer’s nephew. He was murdered at age 6 in 2008; Jennifer’s brother and mother also died in the incident.
