The Voice prepares to unveil its ‘big shakeup’ in those big red chairs

for the Season 11 premiere of The Voice?

Well, it’s coming Sunday night in the form of a half-hour sneak peek, though the real season doesn’t get underway until Sept. 19.

What can we expect Sunday night, when the Voice specials airs at 10:30 p.m. on NBC, after the Olympics’ closing ceremony?

Well, we’ll be introduced to new judges Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus. The judges will serve up their annual group performance. And we’ll apparently see two blind auditions.

Alicia served as an adviser for Team Pharrell two years ago. I’m sure she’ll do fine sitting in the big red chair Pharrell used to occupy.

Miley? I’m still less than thrilled that I’ll have to endure her while watching The Voice, though she imparted more pearls of vocal wisdom than I expected when she served as the Season 10 knockout round adviser.

In a Season 11 promo clip you can watch above, Blake calls the changes the biggest shakeup The Voice has ever seen. After all, there will now be two female coaches. Oh, my.

Adam calls Miley “the youthful spirit we’ve been missing.”

Well, we’ll see about that. She also rates very high on the obnoxious meter. And she’s still better known recently for R-rated antics rather than anything she’s done musically.

You’ll note in the clip above that she sticks out her tongue at one point and rips off her jacket in another. Hmm, same ol’ Miley.

If I’m a musician who takes my craft seriously, she would be my absolute dead last choice for a coach. As in, only if no other coach turns around.

Oh, well, one thing we can count on. The Voice will introduce us to some more amazing talent. At least for one more season.

Then the age limit dips to 13.

Which is another major step in the wrong direction.

Check back Sunday night. I’ll be live blogging as usual.
