So, which contestant on The Voice has been most popular since the live shows began?

The answer might surprise you.

Because it isn’t Matthew Schuler, the West Chester University student who has staked a claim to front-runner status with back-to-back sterling performances.

And it isn’t Tessanne Chin, who entered the competition with far and away the biggest following on both Twitter and Facebook.

Nope, the most popular contestant on Twitter since the live shows began has been none other than the youngest singer on the show — Jacquie Lee.

Between Nov. 4 and last night at 9 p.m., Jacquie Lee had picked up nearly 39,000 followers on Twitter. No one left among the Top 8 has gained more over that time period.

In fact, when the live shows began, Matthew ranked second on the show in Twitter followers.

Despite that string of impressive performances, he’s now dropped to fourth, behind Tessanne, Jacquie Lee and the show’s other teen contestant, Caroline Pennell.

Little wonder Caroline got the Twitter save at the end of last week’s elimination show.

Oh, and for those who think Twitter popularity has nothing to do with the outcome on the show, I’d note this.

Of the Top 12, the four contestants eliminated so far — Kat Robichaud, Jonny Gray, Austin Jenckes and Josh Logan — ranked 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th in Twitter followings.
