Tour a week away, Phillip takes Today Show stage

With the launch of his summer tour just a week away, American Idol Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips took the Today Show stage on Friday.

He played his signature song “Home,” confessed that live TV still makes him nervous and admitted he’s still sometimes insecure about his singing voice.

That second single hasn’t matched the success of “Home,” of course. Then again, few songs sell more than 4 million copies.

But “Gone, Gone, Gone,” is still climbing the Billboard charts, cracking the top 40 for the first time this week and hitting new highs of number three among rock songs and adult pop songs.

As for his tour … well, he’s actually opening for John Mayer this summer, starting with a July 6 date at the Marcus Amphitheatre in Milwaukee as part of Summerfest.

That tour will stop in Camden, N.J., on Aug. 23, and includes a pair of Pennsylvania dates — Aug. 25 at the First Niagra Pavilion near Pittsburgh and Aug. 27 at the Great Allentown Fair.

And in a date rescheduled from this spring, Phillip (minus Mayer, of course) will play at Penn State York on Nov. 7. Individual tickets might occasionally become available, but that show is essentially a sell-out, as it was before being back in May.

If you missed Phillips’ performance this morning, here he is singing “Gone, Gone, Gone.”
