Will Champlin is about to release his first post-Voice album.

“Borrowing Trouble” will be released Saturday, just six months after Will finished third on Season 5 of The Voice.

It also comes the same day he heads out on The Voice tour with Season 5 colleagues Tessanne Chin, Jacquie Lee and other recent finalists from the show.

But the 31-year-old, who had a long musical resume pre-Voice, says he “never rushed it.”

He worked on the album with songwriter and friend Steven Gallagher. The title track and album title stemmed from a conversation Will had with Steven’s grandmother when they were out at dinner with their families after a concert.

“We were talking about the day-to-day stress of getting things done and especially what it was like coming off The Voice,” Will recalls in one of the Facebook videos he’s posted about the album. “She said, ‘Don’t borrow trouble. Don’t worry about things you can’t control. Just do what you can.’ That’s a good song.”

Gallagher says listeners will get a little of everything on the album.

“What you hear a lot nowadays, you get certain bands, their whole album sounds the same. You hear a song, you hear a song, you hear a song. And the lyrics chance and the melody kind of changes, but they’re so similar, it’s like you buy one big song.”

That won’t happen with Will’s album, he predicts.

He and Will say the album includes a touch of rock, reggae, grunge, folk, bluegrass, even melodic rap, with a touch of marching drums and inspirational music thrown in.

For those who just can’t wait, Will has already released “Last Man Standing” and “Eye of the Pyramid” as singles.

As for that tour, it kicks off Saturday in San Antonio and includes stops in Hershey and Baltimore.
