X Factor’s Fifth Harmony lands a record deal

Wondering if the five gals who make up Fifth Harmony would stick together after Season 2 of The X Factor?

Apparently, the answer is a resounding yes.

Fifth Harmony has landed a record deal.Epic Records and Syco Music (aka Simon Cowell) issued a press release this morning announcing they had signed the group.

That means we’ll eventually be getting an album from Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Normani Hamilton, Dinah Jane Hansen, and Lauren Jauregui — the teens Simon and company threw together to form a group at the end of the boot camp episodes.

Form a group they did. The gals were the most improved act over the course of Season 2 and the surprise winner of a spot in The X Factor finals alongside winner Tate Stevens and runner-up Carly Rose Sonenclar.

I ranked their version of “Anything Could Happen” as the best performance from Season 2.

Says Simon in the press release:
“I knew from the girls’ first performance at judges’ homes in Miami that we’d done the right thing. The chemistry between the Fifth Harmony girls both on and off stage is fantastic. They are really great girls, who have become best friends. They’re great fun to be around and most importantly, they are all incredibly talented.”

Not that they didn’t have to overcome some obstacles. Like three names.

First they were called the Lylas, but Bruno Mars’ sisters objected because they were already performing under that name. Next they were called 1432, but that was ditched after one performance because Simon (in one of his better Season 2 judgment calls) decided it wasn’t catchy enough.

Then there was L.A. Reid’s constant complaints that they didn’t harmonize enough.

Said Ally Brooke about the recording deal: “I am going to have a BLAST recording with my girls and working with L.A. and Simon. I promise we’re gonna bring it for our FLAWESOME Harmonizers!”

Julian Bunetta, who has worked with One Direction, Boyz II Men, Flo Rida, Natasha Bedingfield and Leona Lewis, will be executive producer of the upcoming album. He also worked with the group as music director on The X Factor.

The press release didn’t indicate when we might get new music from the group.
