We just learned that Carly Smithson and We Are the Fallen have a record deal and plan to release an album next year.

Now comes news that Kimberly Caldwell’s long-awaited post-Idol debut is also planned for 2010.

“I have been super busy putting the final touches on the album — the first single should be dropping in January and the album should be out in March,” she says in a MySpace blog posted Wednesday night.

Long-awaited belongs in front of any description of an album by Kimberly. She was a contestant way back in the second season of Idol, finishing seventh.

Since then, she has kept busy with a variety of TV hosting and reporting gigs. She was host, for instance, on P. Diddy’s Starmaker, an American Idol knockoff which just finished its first season on MTV.

Kimberly talks about the album more extensively in an October interview with Cosmo Girl. She says it will be a pop/rock album and that she wrote about half the music on it.

For a while, I was wondering who among former Idols would be left to release an album in 2010. I mean, this year, we’re getting albums from six of the eight Idol champs — Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood (due out Nov. 3) and Kris Allen (due out Nov. 17).

But the 2010 release list is growing, with Kimberly and Carly joining Katharine McPhee, Jason Castro, Bucky Covington and David Cook.
