American Idol goes for 3rd straight People’s Choice Award

Nominations were recently announced for the 2012 People’s Choice Awards.  Idol is among the nominees for Favorite TV Competition Show.

It’s a category Idol won the past two years, even after Season 9, when ratings dipped rather drastically.

So it’s hard to think Idol wouldn’t be a favorite to win again after Season 10, when fans embraced a more talented and diversified group of finalists and ratings rebounded.

Up against Idol for the honors are The Voice, America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance.

Gotta say, The Voice merits consideration.  It does many things better than Idol with a faster-paced show and none of those gimmicky auditions by people who don’t have a prayer of becoming the next Idol.

The People’s Choice Awards air Jan. 11 on CBS.
