Grace Kinstler from American Idol Season 19

Grace Kinstler is one of the singers we’ll meet Sunday night when American Idol kicks off Season 19.

Here’s more about Grace.

* She’s from Lakewood, Ill., and is a 20-year-old student at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

* She identifies as a 20-year-old singer-songwriter on Facebook and has released lots of original music to back that up.

* Those releases include a pair of 2016 singles (“Make a Choice” and “The World Doesn’t Wait), a 2017 single (“Ocean Kisses”), a 2018 EP (“Remember the People) and a 2019 EP (“Lavender”). “You Just Don’t Love Me” from the latter EP is a great example of Grace’s vocal prowess. Check it out below.

* In American Idol promo clips, you’ll see the judges raving over Grace’s cover of “Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin. Lionel Richie calls it the most “spot-on” audition the judges have heard.

* Grace told Chicago’s Daily Herald her decision to audition with the song was meant as a tribute to her dad, who passed away about a year ago. She said he always inspired her to pursue music.

* “I have a video from when I was younger; he videotaped me singing ‘Natural Woman.’ So I was like, it would be really cool to pay tribute to him by singing that song for the audition,” she told the site.

* Grace also told the Daily Herald that she’s been singing since she was 4 or 5 and attended a Katy Perry concert at age 8.

* Judging from her social media, Grace has performed the national anthem for the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox, both on multiple occasions.

* Grace also has an excellent cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on her YouTube channel. She says she was inspired to record it because it was her parents’ first-dance song.
