Singer-songwriter Amy Vachal turned in one of the most highly praised blind audition performances during the Season 9 blind auditions for The Voice.

In the battle round, she found herself matched against two powerful singers — the duet of Jubal and Amanda.

And though their musical styles are quite different, Amy said they embraced the opportunity to make something unique happen on The Voice stage.

They made something happen on iTunes as well.

Their cover of The Bee Gees’ “To Love Somebody” turned out to be the most popular from the final night of battles. And the only cover song from that night to crack the Top 200 on the iTunes’ singles chart.

During a conference call with the media earlier this week, Amy said all three singers kept making little tweaks to the arrangement, working hard to mesh their contrasting styles.

“And in the process of that, at times I felt like it was extra hard for someone like me who tends to want to attack a song like this from a more stripped down, soulful kind of way,” she said. “And so in trying to create this hybrid between our two styles, the arrangement of this song really required me to step up in volume, particularly.

“So going into the actual battle day I had put in the work. I had sweat over this song like you wouldn’t believe. I was as ready as I was going to be. So I knew that whatever the outcome would be — I knew that I had given it all I had.”

Amy, 26, of Brooklyn, N.Y., wound up advancing to the knockout round for Team Pharrell. Jubal and Amanda were eliminated when they were not stolen.
