Christmas music from former Idols

RJ Helton is among the former Idols featured on American Christmas 2.If you aren’t full up on holiday music, you might want to check out this Christmas album, for the sake of curiousity if nothing else.

After all, we don’t often get new recorded music from some of these folks.

Anyway, 12 former American Idol contestants are featured on the album “American Christmas 2,” available via iTunes and CD Baby.

The album was released by Chenoa Music, which hosted a Christmas concert last year featuring several former Idols, including Lindsey Cardinale, Haley Scarnato and Jasmine Trias and released the first American Christmas album, featuring songs from those three and more.

This time around, there wasn’t a concert.

But Michael Johns has the distinction of opening the album with “Let It Shine” and closing it with “Another Christmas,” both originals.

Other former finalists featured Nikki McKibbin and R.J. Helton from season one, LaToya London from season three, Nikko Smith from season four, Brandon Rogers from season six and Chikezie from season seven.

Former semifinalists Ayla Brown, Alexis Stone Lopez, Sundance Head and Nick Mitchell also have songs on the album.

You can listen to  samples of all the songs here.

Joe Cannizzaro of Chenoa Music said he’s planning an American Christmas concert featuring Idols “for sure” next year.

There will also be an American Christmas 3 album, featuring duets.

Meanwhile, here’s Michael Johns performing “Another Christmas.”
