David Archuleta, runner-up on Season 7 of American Idol, has a new single out.

David Archuleta released an uplifting new pop single called “Up” on Friday.

And the song almost immediately found its way into the Apple Music Top 200.

David, runner-up on American Idol Season 7, came out in 2021 after years of struggling with his sexual identity.

“‘Up’ is about hitting what we feel is rock bottom in our lives and like there’s nowhere to go. You feel hopless,” David writes on social media.

“The only thing to do from the bottom is get yourself off the grand and move up.”

He says the new single is “about finding the strength you didn’t know you had in you. And replacing any fear and hate with love. Especially self love.

“I hit rock bottom. I thought I wouldn’t get through it. But here I am.

“I though I was hopeless and that I’d failed, but here I am.

“Even when you’re at your lowest, you need to realize you can only go up. You need to hold on to that glimmer of hope and say, ‘I am going to turn any type of hate and negativity into positivity and love.”

David wrote the new single with Jeremy Thurber, and Taylor Spark. It features an especially catchy and lovely chorus and certainly sounds like a potential hit. As of Saturday afternoon, it was sitting at number 170 on the Apple Music Top 200.

And it’s well-timed. David just finished a successful run on “The Masked Singer,” where he performed as the Macaw and finished second to Bishop Briggs.

“Up” marks his first release since his August 2022 single “Faith in Me.”

But more music is coming, including a planned album later this year, David told EW.com in an interview about his experience on “The Masked Singer.”
