The Voice introduced fans to five more singers who earned spots on Season 20 Tuesday night.
None of them managed to turn four chairs, but Deion Warren and Connor Christian each got three of the superstar coaches to turn.
Rocker Connor opted to join Team Blake Shelton. Probation officer Deion opted for Team John Legend.
Here’s a recap of Tuesday’s show.
BEST OF THE NIGHT
Deion Warren, 28, Conway, N.C.
Audition song: “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper
Chair turns: Deion wasn’t far into his performance when he got chair turns from Kelly Clarkson and John Legend. Nick Jonas turned later. Blake Shelton indicated he would have turned to, but landed a similar artist earlier with the promise that he’d leave the R&B lane open for him.
Feedback: Nick and Kelly both said Deion has the ability to make it to the finale. Kelly called him the perfect vessel for the message of the song he was singing. Nick said everyone listening felt his performance. John liked the song choice, saying it wasn’t a natural choice for Deion, but allowed him to show off his musicianship and artistry.
His choice: Deion opted to join Team John.
Why? Simply the best vocal we heard Tuesday night. Deion hit a great glory note in the middle of the song and came back to deliver a tender ending.
RUNNER-UP
Gihanna Zoe, 17, Redlands, Calif.
Audition song: “She Used to Be Mine” by Sara Bareilles
Chair turns: Gihanna’s frill-filled performance prompted late chair turns from Kelly and Nick.
Feedback: Kelly said she was impressed by Gihanna and thinks she and Gihanna would be a good fit. Nick called it a great performance. Nick said her soaring high notes were especially impressive.
Her choice: Gihanna joined Team Kelly.
Why: This song should be more about emotion than vocal tricks. Gihanna deliver too little of the former and too much of the latter. That said, for 17, she showed off lots of vocal firepower, yet came back to deliver a really nice nuanced ending.
ALSO MADE THE SHOW
Connor Christian, 23, Gallipolis, Ohio
Audition song: “Bright Lights” by Gary Clark Jr.
Chair turns: It took a while, but Connor got chair turns from Blake Shelton, Nick Jonas and Kelly Clarkson.
Feedback: Kelly complimented him on a blues bar type vibe and on his rasp. Blake said he loved the way Connor rocked out on stage. Nick said he thinks Connor could go a long way on the show.
His choice: Connor chose to join Team Blake.
Bradley Sinclair, 22, Nashville, Tenn.
Audition song: “Say You Won’t Let Her Go” by James Arthur
Chair turns: Kelly turned midway through the performance and a series of big notes enticed a chair turn from Nick as well.
Feedback: Kelly said she loves Bradley’s voice and the passion in his performance. Nick said he loves Bradley’s cool vibe and was particularly impressed by his performance once he settled in and his nerves disappeared.
His choice: Bradley joined Team Nick.
J.D. Casper, 28, Austin, Texas
Audition song: “How to Save a Life” by The Fray
Chair turns: J.D., playing an acoustic guitar with his hands and a tambourine and drum with his foot, hit a big note near the end of the performance and enticed a chair turn from Kelly.
Feedback: Kelly said J.D. did a really cool job of making the song his own.
His choice: J.D. automatically joined Team Kelly, but said Kelly was his first choice for a coach, partly because both of his children are big fans of Kelly.
