Two former Idol contestants can lay claim to top 10 singles this week, both on the Billboard pop chart.
For the second straight week, Jordin Sparks’ latest hit, “Battlefield,” checks in at number seven among pop singles.
And though they’re better known as a rock band, Daughtry has enjoyed its share of pop success and continues to do so. The band’s latest single, “No Surprise,” is now number nine on the pop chart, up from 11 a week ago.
Here’s a complete rundown of Idols on the music charts.
American Idol Season Eight: The album featuring the top 10 finalists from season eight continues to tumble down the charts, from 147 to 161 on the Billboard 200. But at this point, does that really matter? By the end of November, we’ll have first albums from Kris Allen (Nov. 17) and Adam Lambert (Nov. 24).
Meanwhile, the top 10 are in Reading tonight as the Idol summer tour winds down. Tickets are still available. Follow this link.
Kelly Clarkson: “Already Gone” isn’t exactly roaring up the charts the way the first two singles from “All I Ever Wanted” did. But it continues to climb, jumping from 65 to 57 on the Hot 100. The album is number 82, down from 80 a week ago. Kelly, of course, will be performing on the York Fair grandstand on Friday.
David Cook: Another fair-bound Idol, David saw his “Come Back to Me” single move up two spots to number 15 on the adult contemporary chart. It’s number 83 on the Hot 100, down from 80 a week ago. David’s debut album is 152 on the Billboard 200 after being number 99 just two weeks ago.
Daughtry: “Leave This Town,” the band’s new album, spent six weeks in the top 10 on the Billboard 200. This week, it drops from 9 to 13. The “No Surprise” single is number 22 on the Hot 100, in addition to being number nine on the pop songs chart. And the original Daughtry album checks in at 111 on the Billboard 200, down seven spots from a week ago.
Jennifer Hudson: The single “If This Isn’t Love” continues to do well on the R&B chart, checking in at number 42. It was number 35 last week. Jennifer’s self-titled debut album has fallen out of the top 50 on the R&B album chart; last week it was number 42.
Kellie Pickler: Her self-titled second album got a big boost from the success of the single, “Best Days of Your Life.” Time will tell if single number three from the album has the same effect. For now, the album is 26 on the country album chart and 133 on the Billboard 200, both down slightly from a week ago.
Jordin Sparks: In addition to being number seven on the pop singles chart, “Battlefield” is number 14 on the Hot 100, up two spots from a week ago. Jordin’s second album is number 86 on the Billboard 200, all the way down from 63 last week.
Mandissa: For the third straight week, her second album, “Freedom,” is number 22 on the Christian albums chart.
Phil Stacey: You won’t find Phil’s second CD on the Christian albums chart, but the lead single off it is doing well. “If You’re Not Shaken” holds steady at number 18 on the Christian songs chart.
