Is The Voice save super, or just another unfair gimmick?

When Carson Daly announced The Voice’s super silly Super Save at the end of last Monday’s episode, he offered up the following rationale.

“We’ve always intended to keep the best artists on the show for the longest amount of time,” he said.

I swear, I had to laugh.

That has not been The Voice’s mantra. Well, maybe it was back when The Voice was a legitimate singing competition.

But it sure hasn’t been for at least the past 10 seasons.

The Voice’s recent mantra has been, let’s see how many gimmicks we can add to the show.

And if they aren’t fair to the singers, who gives a damn.

So The Voice introduced the block, which robs some of the most sought-after singers of the chance to work with the coach who might have been the best fit for them.

So The Voice uses steals and saves during the battles and knockouts in such a fashion that they run out of steals and saves halfway through filming, meaning lots of contestants don’t even have a chance at one, no matter how well they perform.

So The Voice continues to use an instant save at the end of its results shows. On East Coast time. To the detriment of singers from the West Coast.

And so The Voice starts handpicking semifinalists, which means each coach is guaranteed the same number of semifinalists. Forget the fact that Michael Buble failed to lure a single three- or four-chair turn to his team this entire season.

Yep, all guaranteed to make sure the show keeps the best singers as long as possible.

Really? Really? You expect anyone to buy that.

Carson, how can you even utter those words with a straight face?

Now we get the super silly Super Save, which is going to allow each coach to bring back an already eliminated singer for Monday’s semifinals.

Ah, but with a catch. Viewers won’t know who’s coming back until Monday’s show starts.

Hold it. How can that possibly be fair?

Fans of Renzo and Bryson Battle and Cree Jadyn and the other five revealed semifinalists know to tune in on Monday so they can watch and support their favorites.

But the four recipients of the super silly Super Save can’t even alert their fans that they’re coming back.

Voice producers, let me introduce you to some of your viewers, and the comments they made on my Facebook page when I posted about Jaelen Johnston’s elimination from Team Kelsea.

* Denise Mills: “His (Jaelen’s) was the only performance I liked. Now there’s no reason to watch.. America Idols singers are so much better this season.”

* CathyLee Rice” “They picked the wrong ones. I’m done watching.”

* Sherry Gilley: “Made a bad mistake letting Jaelen go. I stopped watching after that stunt.”

* ReNae Lee-Roslee: “I have loved the Voice, never missed an episode. Hate this year! I no longer watch it! They sent the best ones home. American Idol is so much better this year! I think the coaches voting is terrible!!”

* Tammy RousseauL “I am not watching the rest of the season. The coaches choices are absolutely terrible. The best singer Jaelon should not have been eliminated. I will be watching the season finale just to watch Bryce Leatherwood perform.”

* Margaret Johnson: “When I choose to walk my dog when the voice is on instead of at the end then you know show has lost its appeal.”

Translation, in case you missed it, Voice producers: Lots of your fans have already tuned out.

The logical solution would have been to reveal the four returning contestants at the end of last Monday’s show, so they’d know to tune back in.

But, nope, you decided to make the Super Save super silly.

Just another in a long list of unfair gimmicks on the show.

Because — let’s all sing it together, now — “This is The Voice!”

You speak the truth, Mark. No other recappers do. They just summarize the episode and give letter grades.
I’m not a fan of “Idol” due the manipulations of the producers and the judges.
“The Voice “ could have done so much. They could have remedied “Idol’s” flaws. They could have brought groups of talented singers to fame.
Every season, it’s the same story. Starts with who the coaches will be. Then the “Blind” Rounds” then the gimmicks start. Viewers are really furious. Ratings will go down further. NBC will renew the show. It’s all about money. Nobody cares anymore. Not the producers, not the coaches, not the host. I don’t know why people still go on “The Voice “ I don’t know how people can still take the show seriously. It’s a rigged game show and and ego massages for the host and the coaches. Follow your favorite contestants after the seasons end, The viewers are all they have for any kind of success.
