Kyla Jade pays tribute to Aretha Franklin with first post-Voice release

Kyla Jade has already released her first song since finishing fourth on The Voice Season 14.

Kyla Jade sang Aretha Franklin’s “See Saw” to win a spot on Season 14 of The Voice.

She wound up finishing third and has chosen another Aretha song — “Day Dreaming” — as her first post-show release.

Kyla explains the choice in her eloquent “Letters from a Little Black Girl” that you can read here.

In a letter to Aretha, Kyla writes, in part, “because of your life music, this little black girl has someone she can strive to be like. There will never be another Aretha Franklin in this world. BUT you have proven that another little black girl can strive to make a musical difference in this world by being exactly who God put her on this Earth to be. Thank you.”

Primarily a background singer before The Voice, Kyla had released just one song, a 2014 single called “Hello Sunshine.”

But it sounds like more is on the way from Kyla. On Facebook, she’s declared the fourth Monday of each month Music Monday.

She’s also in demand as a soloist since her Voice success.

On Sunday, she’ll be a featured performer during the opening ceremony of the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games at the University of Washington’s Husky Stadium in Seattle.

By Wednesday, she’ll be on the opposite side of the country, performing in Washington D.C. at The Capitol Fourth, which will be televised by PBS.

Here’s “Day Dreaming.”
