Kennedy Grey, Season 11

Meet American Idol contestant Kennedy Grey

0

Kennedy Grey is yet another of those East Coasters who would up getting a golden ticket in Portland after initially auditioning in New Jersey.

She said friends kept urging her to try out, probaby in part because of her work.

Kennedy is  a waitress at Tapastry, a restaurant/cafe in Montclair, N.J., and a regular behind the microphone at its Studio 12 Open Mic night, according to this story.

And on Facebook, she writes: “Music is what I live for.”

Twenty-six at the time of the auditions, Kennedy said she started singing when she was 6 or 7 years old.  She decribes herself as an “old soul,” which probably explains performances like “Dock of the Bay” (below).

Her favorite former Idol contestant is Jennifer Hudson, but her favorite Idol moment came after her audition.

She ran across Steven Tyler, who hugged her and had great things to say about her vocal ability, Kennedy says in her golden ticket interview.

And should she become the next Idol or get a chance to use Idol as a forum, she has a message she’d like to share.

“I really want to share — anyone that just feels alone or like they are that big mess — that you are loved and every part of you is loved,” she says. ” I feel like I could really express that and really be relatable.”
