Thousands turn out for Idol auditions in Pittsburgh

More than 12,000 singers turned out at Heinz Field Friday in hopes of beginning the Season 11 American Idol.

American Idol was visiting Pittsburgh for the first time in its search for contestants to fill out the Season 11 cast.

Pittsburgh is the fourth city Idol has visited this year, following stops in San Diego, St. Louis and Portland. Still to come are auditions in Denver, Houston and Charleston, S.C. (July 22).

Idol Supervising Producer Patrick Lynn told WYTV in Pittsburgh that the show was setting a high standard as it reviews contestants for the coming season.

“Last year, we had probably our best season ever, talent wise. And we’re really trying to match that and take it up another step,” he told the TV station.

If you know of any York County residents who auditioned, please contact me at [email protected]. I’d love to interview them about the experience.
