Courtney Williams, Season 11

Meet American Idol contestant Courtney Williams

1

Lots of Idol contestants were heading back to Hollywood for a second time in Season 11.

But most were last there in Season 9 or Season 10.

Courtney Williams was returning after last going to Hollywood in Season 7.  That’s right, the year David Cook and David Archuleta dueled for the Idol crown.

But she’s back for a special reason.  Shortly before the auditions, her nephew died at just 18 months old.

He never had a voice, she said.  She wanted to be his voice.

And his death at such a young age reminded her that there’s no time like the present to pursue one’s dream.

Courtney, 24 at the time of the auditions, said she first sang for an audience at the tender age of 2 in church.

“I’ll never forget,” she tells Idol in her golden ticket interview.  “It was the first time I ever belted out anything.”

The resident of Philadelphia, Pa., says Kelly Clarkson is her favorite former contestant because of the drive she’s shown by continuing to do so well 10 years after becoming the first Idol.

“I’m all about motivating people to do great things in life and see the bigger picture,” Courtney says.

If anyone knows more about Courtney’s musical background or where to find video of her performing, let me know.
