Meet American Idol contestant Nick Boddington

2

Let’s all hope Nick Boddington’s musical tastes have changed since he was 11 years old.

That’s when he first performed for an audience, at a dance and vocal studio he was attending.

His performance:  A Donny Osmond medley, he says, with a big smile.

No worries.

Just check out a 9-track album Nick and Jade Bartlett released in December 2009 as The Wonderland Robbers.

The duet “My Darkest Night” is particularly good.  Nick refers to the album as “alt-country,” and he and Jade wrote all the songs.

Nick makes music on his own, too, and on Facebook describes himself as a singer-songwriter influenced by R&B, country, and ’90s pop.

Originally from Memphis, he also works as a background vocalist and session musician for emerging artists in New York.

After earning a golden ticket at the Portland auditions, Nick said he’d tried Idol before, but now thinks he has a better sense of who he is as an artist.

“I think I have the ability to make music that moves people,” he says in his golden ticket interview.

You can judge that for yourself.  In addition to The Wonderland Robbers link above, you can hear Nick’s music on that Facebook page and on his YouTube channel.

Nick, by the way, was 26 at the time of the Idol auditions.
