Phillip Phillips is working on his first album since 2014.

Interestingly, the song “Miles” is a 19 Recordings release under exclusive licensing to UMG Recordings.

Phillips’ lawsuit against 19 was settled over the summer; settlement details were never released.

Regardless, the new song is being pretty well received. As of Monday, three days after its release, it was still number 52 on the iTunes pop singles chart and number 171 on the sites Top 200 singles chart.

Phillip wrote the song with Lindsay Rimes and Kevin Griffin, and it’s the first release from his upcoming third album.

Phillip told People the song is a tribute to the journey he’s been through for the past three years and to his wife for helping him through it.

“I am so excited to have the connection with my fans again by releasing new music,” he added on Facebook. “Miles,” the first single, is about going through change, but not being alone while it’s happening. Just knowing that there is always light after dark.

“This has been a really interesting journey and I’ve learned a lot personally and professionally. This is a new time and I’m excited about taking everyone along.”

Meanwhile, Phillip is on tour with the Goo Goo Dolls. That tour runs through mid-September and includes an Aug. 22 show at the Pier Six Concert Pavilion in Baltimore.

Phillip’s upcoming album will be his third since Idol. His debut album, “The World from the Side of the Moon,” was released in November 2012 and went platinum, signifying sales of more than 1 million copies. His sophomore album, 2014’s “Behind the Light,” failed to come close to matching that success.

Of course, Phillips also released “Home” as his debut single. It was his American Idol coronation song and became one of the most successful post-Idol singles ever with sales of more than 5 million copies.

But Phillip dissed the song in interviews the day after winning Season 11, saying it wasn’t the song he wanted to release as his first single.
