Brittany Hammond credits her mom with convincing her to audition for Season 11 of American Idol.
After all, she had tried out last year in Kansas City and didn’t make it, which she admits was a little discouraging.
This year, she tried out in her hometown of St. Louis in an audition we did not see on Idol.
But Brittany, 19, got her golden ticket this time.
She says she first performed at age 10. And admits it didn’t go as well as she would have liked.
“I didn’t do well at all,” she says, chalking it up to shyness. “I was like a little mouse with the microphone.”
Things have changed since then. There are several videos of her performing on YouTube, no shyness in sight.
She says Fantasia is her favorite former Idol, calling her the type of artist “you only find every blue moon.”
Brittany says people have told her she has a unique voice as well.
In her golden ticket interview, she said she also hopes her style, personality and humble attitude serve her well on the show.
Here are a couple of Brittany Hammond performances, including a cover of a song released by her favorite Idol.
“Bittersweet”
“Bust the Windows”
